The Sound Of Music

Sound of Music is the story of an Austrian nun who goes to work as a housekeeper in a widowed captain's house. She builds a strong relationship with his seven children and falls in love with the Captain. It shows their story of struggle during World War II when Captain Von Trapp is being made join Hitler's side and himself and his family go into hiding. The Sound Of Music is a true story based on the first section of Maria Von Trapp's book, The Story Of The Trapp Family Singers. The Von Trapp family lived in Salzburg, the capital of the Austrian province 'Salzburg', where tourism is now one of the biggest jobs. Tourists come to see the places where the famous "Sound Of Music" movie was based. The film was shot in-

The Benedictine Convent on Nonnberg, where the Nuns sing "Maria".
Mirabell gardens and Mirabell palace, where Maria and the seven children sing the famous song "Do Re Mi".
Residenz Square and fountain is one of the places where Maria sings "I have confidence" while she is on a bus.
Felsenreitschule is where the Von Trapp family sing "Do Re Mi" and Edelweiss.
Leopoldskron palace where the lake at the Von Trapp family home is located.
Frohnburg palace where the courtyard and main front were used as a backdrop.
The Sound Of Music Pavillion can be found at Hellbrunn palace, the song "I am 16 going on 17" was filmed there.

The movie "The Sound Of Music" was filmed in all of these locations in Austria and was very famous. In 2006, after the hit tv show to find the West End's Maria, the much anticipated show hit London's Palladium Theatre. Alex Hitchcock, who has automated many West End Productions (Oliver, Mary Poppins..) programmed the automation control in "The Sound of Music". The beautiful hills and mountains are a big part of "The Sound Of Music". They are where Maria sings "The Hills Are Alive" and where the Von Trapp family are seen at the end of the story, running away. In The London Palladium, there is a 12 ton automated mountain. The set building company Scena worked on this mountain with stage technologies. It can be raised, lowered and rotated using an acrobat control console. Large, automated trucks bring the abbey and the Von Trapp mansion onto the stage in four sections. Each truck can rotate in quickly and fluidly from the interior to the exterior of the set using onboard drive systems. Big Tow winches fly backdrops onstage. These are used for the abbey and also Maria's bedroom in the Von Trapp mansion. A travelator whisks performers and furniture off stage quickly.
The Set makes this musical come alive and shows the beautiful scenery of Austria.
